Hey guys, unashamedly asking for some Likes on this photo of my humble workplace up on ImageZoo’s Facebook page! If I get the most Likes I’ll get a lovely prize for having the coolest workplace among my colleagues with illustrations available at ImageZoo.com! Just click on this specific photo, and Like it before Friday when the contest ends… thanks!!!
Another fun contest (this one for grown ups!) over at Threadless.com. The winning design of this contest will be printed on t-shirts and Havaianas sandals, and you’ll “get a bunch of cashola and fame: your stuff will be worn by a bajillion people (approximately),” heh heh. Submission due date is April 4th.
Pier 1 Imports/UNICEF/Owlkids are having a Greeting Card Contest for children, where the first prize is a $5000 scholarship. Download your entry form here, or pick one up in a Canadian Pier 1 Imports location. Contest entry dates end April 15, 2010.
Would have loved to enter this as I’m a big fan of LOST, but am not living in the US… so, for all you American illustrators, there is a LOST T-shirt Design Contest over at CafePress where you could win a trip to Hawaii and other goodies! Contest ends Feb 18.
Thought I’d share the love, here is a link to the entry form for any illustrators interested in entering to win a free page of advertising in the Directory of Illustration 26.
Charline Crous excitedly dropped me a note this week to say our children’s book, Tartan Meets the Queen, won first place in Trafford Publishing’s First Annual Golden Scribe Award competition! Tartan Meets the Queen is available online at Trafford.com
This is a photo I took while in India with my husband, Ben… which I just submitted to the CONNECTIONS Photo Contest. The contest calls for amateur photographers (sorry pros!) to submit a single photo that captures the authentic essence of a place. I think this is my favourite photo of our time in India… we were visiting the Monkey Temple near Jaipur, where pilgrims come to bathe in the sacred baths. We were the only tourists there, and upon arrival were being coerced into buying souvenirs, to be blessed by priests (for a fee,) and being chased by little girls with baskets of cobras to have our photo taken with them (also for a fee.) There were few places in India we felt uncomfortable on our trip, and this was one of them. But then we caught a glimpse of this little girl, all by herself, playing in the sink while gathering water, and snapped this picture. I feel like it captured something sweet and sad at the same time, the contrast between the struggles of poverty and childhood innocence.
Some fun for the little Thomas & Friends devotee in your life… Borders is having a colouring contest where your little one can win some cool Thomas stuff (over $1000 in prizes)! (You have to be under 6 years old to enter :)
I’m horribly addicted to kids books, and had to pass along this online game from Borders to win the Ultimate Kids Bookcase. I managed to snaggle a couple coupons (but reckon every book has a coupon behind it anyway!), but the grand prize is 100 kids books so think it’s worth having a few clicks!
My favourite children’s book review podcast, Just One More Book, is coming up to it’s 400th episode this July… and to celebrate the love of reading they’ve invited children’s book illustrators to come up with a logo for their website. Mark & Andrea are a lovely couple whose love of reading with their children is truly apparant through their podcasts… they’ve received some great submissions already, including this awesome one by one of my favourite illustrators/writers, Oliver Jeffers… as well as artwork by some very tallented kiddies! Deadline for entries is June 15th, 2008… Happy drawing!
