original paintings & upcycled vintage art

Hi, I’m Heather! I am an old school artist.

I studied art at the Alberta College of Art and Design and Capilano University. Over the last 20 years I’ve enjoyed illustrating interesting projects including greeting cards and children’s books. I think my love for picture books has resulted in my playful painting style and subject matter, and I enjoy working with a variety of mediums (pencil, oils, acrylic, pastel, watercolours…)

Painting Canada : I love nature and conservation, so approach each project looking for opportunities to visually share the details of nature I find amazing, and with a thoughtfulness towards my work’s impact on the environment. While I use beautiful quality art materials to get the best results, I complement those with reclaimed and recycled materials in my art process and packaging. So don’t be surprised if a piece of art arrives to you packaged in paint splattered paper used to protect the table while working!

Upcycled Vintage Art : I have always loved antiques and vintage things. My folks would often refinish antique furniture and make things from reclaimed weathered wood. My Dad is a purist and wants to restore items to the natural finish, while my Mum loves modern things and doesn’t mind adding a fun colour of paint to freshen something up. Both these approaches dance around in my mind when I find an  old paining and consider what can I do to give this a new life? I’m enjoying exploring this new art style of upcycled vintage art.

Thank you for taking an interest in my work and what I do!
