clickgreen carbon offsets

A few months ago my hubby got me hooked on ClickGreen… you sign up to receive emails from their advertizers, and for each one you click they plant trees to offset a day’s worth of carbon emissions for YOU! Thought it was a pretty cool idea… only wish they sent me MORE ads so that I could click more and earn more offsets!

My biggest concern with purchasing offsets is that the trees that are planted now are logged later on… so I checked it out, and ClickGreen is planting trees through GreenFleet, who are doing good by planting forests (we’re talking 3 million native trees in the last 10 years) in areas of environmental concern throughout Australia.

ClickGreen is an “environmental” concept indeed.

Hi Heather,

logging trees is not in itself a problem, it all depends on what happens to the wood next.

If it is burned for firewood that’s clearly no good. If it’s used for construction, the timber can lock up a lot of carbon for a long time, maybe a century or more. That’s a real benefit.

I’ll be looking into clickgreen, thanks for posting about it.
