Whimsical Garden Sketch

By heather at 8:34 pm on Wednesday, March 7, 2007

I was doodling a bit last night… have had a hankering to illustrate another colourful garden scene, and a fairy, and some kids… so here’s my plan! I’m hoping to use this for a self-promotion piece, and will have time to paint it early next week.

Hazy Jean | Mother’s Day Rose

By heather at 8:34 pm on Tuesday, March 6, 2007

Watercolour by Heather Castles Hazy Jean

Our neighbourhood was blooming with roses this past spring, and it inspired the above watercolour for Hazy Jean’s Mother’s Day 2007 collection. I took a number of photographs to work from… I just love illustrating roses, they are just so complex and interesting to look at.

Check out some of my other Hazy Jean Designs here.

Yellow Roses

Illustration by Heather Castles Image Craft, Inc.

This illustration was designed for an anniversary card (V68353 Image Craft) and I thought it sweet to use yellow roses (which symbolize friendship) surrounding a red rose (which is a symbol of love & passion.) The illustration is a rework from this original graphite illustration I created for Image Craft, Inc.

Illustration Time Sheets

By heather at 9:23 pm on Sunday, March 4, 2007

At the beginning of each project, I set up a production sheet. It’s a pretty simple tool for keeping track of your client’s contact information, details about the project, and track the time and resources you spend on a project. When the project is finished, I add up the time I’ve spent, and use that to determine whether I have come in over / underbudget for time spent. By taking the time to track your hours and materials purchased for a project, you’ll make it easier for yourself in the future when quoting for similar projects.

Here is a free PDF template of a Time Sheet you can use to help track the time spent on your illustration / design projects.
