www.artwanted.com has been slow in reacting to the new frontier of the net. They recently changed their website design, but I'm still cynical as to if it will matter or not. They are 9 years old and only have an www.alexa.com rank in the 60,000's compared to relatively new sites like www.myartspace.com that are already in the lower 100,000. Kind of sad to think that a site that has been around as long as Artwanted will do doubt end up being passed by younger sites as far as traffic is concerned. Part of the problem is that their staff is anonymous. As a member you have no idea who you are dealing with. I'm always skeptical about a site that has no identity other than its name. Still, anything is better than www.deviantart.com. I can't even totally delete my account on that site.

Hi Lucyna,
Thanks for your post on my blog!

I agree, for anyone who isn't totally web savvy, then an online portfolio where you simply upload images is absolutely the best. Aside from my own website, I do pay for a Portfolios.com online portfolio which I am very happy with, which is probably why I'm a bit more picky about my expectations on this ArtWanted.com site.

The sites I mentioned are mainly good if you're wanting to sell prints of your work, so hopefully they will be useful to you. You may also like Greeting Card Universe (GCU), they are new but I've already made some small royalties off selling greeting cards of my illustrations, perhaps you will find luck with your digital photography there.

Direct mail is one of my staple marketing efforts as well... I snail mail samples yearly to publishers and companies I wish to work with. You may find my previous post on promoting your illustration (or digital photography!) helpful.
Best of luck Lucyna!

My background is design and illustration for print advertising and publishing. I am a member of Artist Rising, a division of Art.com. The work I have included in my gallery is designer digital "PhotoArt", a new medium for me. Three choices are given for membership categories, 2 of which require reasonable annual fees. I just found out that my gallery will not be posted on Art.com until maybe later this year -- their cut-off date for this posting was the end of January, which I wasn't told until I asked why I couldn't find my name in their directory. So, I am among about 20,000 artists and if a potential buyer does not know my URL for my gallery, there is no marketing assistance from Art.com.in finding me by name or artwork. I do have some images on their Sistino web site, their worldwide network. For a novice who is not a web tech, I'm forced to do marketing the only way I know -- direct mail from mailing lists. I thought this information would be useful to you.

I will try the other sites you so generously mentioned, in hopes of some marketing options. Thank you for your posting.
