Hi Heather,
I'm the historical embroiderer lady that you are letting me use this lovely drawing as a basis for the embroidery.
His/her latest incarnation is at http://elmsleyrose.blogspot.com/2011/06/julies-butterfly-finished-but-with.html.

I'm not actually finished yet. Although using a real beetle's wing as the butterfly head was really cool, it's not really working. I've since replaced it with a purple plain embroidered head, same as the body.

I'm also going to do a 'network' of fine stitching on top of the purple head/body.

But you can see the finished wings. You can waggle the back wing - see how it sticks up from the embroidery? It's only attached at the point where it joins the front wing. It has a backing in purple fabric.

The friend it is for loves it!

I'll let you know when he/she (It's up to Julie to decide) is all finished, but I thought you'd like to see the progress.

All the best,

Glasswing Butterfly(Greta Oto) is a brush-footed butterfly where its wings are transparent. The tissue between the veins of its wings looks like glass. They are found in the range which extends throughout Central America into Mexico.
